Vicar's Landing was my first job. I waited and bused tables, hosted private parties and prepared some of the food. It was a fantastic introductory experience in working for people who had very little in common with me. Vicar's Landing is a retirement home, and the dining room is held to a four-star standard. All of the customers are elderly, and that brought with it a series of challenges and joys. I not only gained a huge appreciation for people who work in food service for a living, but also learned a lot about how to diffuse conflicts, manage teammates and operate in a standard workplace environment.
